Research task 10

The type of business my business will be

My company will be a limited company, the reason for this is that it will protect the assets of the business a lot more than others, things like sole traders also tend to have smaller businesses and I want my business to be global

Vison statement

INHOUSE will be a household and trustworthy name, that will travel around the world unravelling tightly kept secrets.

Mission statement and values

My mission statement is to spread awareness to lesser know issues in the world and give them a platform to be noticed and talked about. Also to be completely un-biased on all of the issues I tackle, even if my beliefs are proved wrong.

Brand positioning/ marketing

I'm going to make sure my audience thinks positively of me by being very active on social media so they can get in contact and interact. Also the factual programs will be in the style of something like  a Louis Theroux documentary. They'll have a likable person presenting, having someone in from of the camera can put in front of the competition because once the audience gets to know the person presenting they'll be intrigued to watch more.`

Legislation

I need to make sure that I get everyone I interview to fill out an talent release, although a lot of the filming will take place in public spaces so location releases will be less of an issue but will still have to be considered at times. I need to trademark my logo to make sure that no one uses it, but I also have to be careful to not use someone else's trademark material in my logo. I need to make sure i don't use and copyrighted material in my programmes either, for example, I could be using a song I don't have the licence for, this could put me in big trouble. It's also very important to be covered by public liability insurance to be covered id someone tries to wrongly sue me. This is definitely a risk when it come to work in public spaces with members of the public. I also need to be aware of the GDPR rules to make sure I don't get in trouble with them.

Regulatory frameworks

The main regulatory frameworks that apply to my business are Ofcom, BBFC, and ASA. ASA our documentaries will be advertised so we will also need to follow the ASA rules for them. We need to make sure the programs are appropriate for TV, this could be a little bit difficult considering the nature of them, we'd have to leave out maybe some of the more graphic details. as for BBFC we'd want as low of as a rating as possible to reach the biggest audience. But again this might be difficult considering the nature of the programs. If some of our programs are a bit graphic then they'd have to be aired after the watershed, which is a time (9pm) where more graphics and less child friendly  programs can be shown. This would be bad because it would reach less of an audience, but because my company is about being completely honest and un biased it might be essential for the integrity of the program.

Other considerations

The plan is to fund myself, but we could look at something like crowd funding to get us off the ground. We could also look for investors, the issue with crowd funding and investors is that you will owe something to the people who invest, if you don't deliver then you could be in a lot of trouble. But there would be a lot less stress bout how to fund projects. Both ways have their pros and cons but I think I'd look to fund myself until the business is sustainable and can pay for itself.

We also need to make sure all of the equipment we take out and about is insured, a lot of it is very expensive and would be a massive hit for it to break. There are also a lot of other types of insurance that we will need especially on set will filming. we need to make sure all of the talents sign a talent release so they are covered, if something happens to them on set and they haven't signed this form we could get in a lot of trouble ( They could sue us). We might have to have insurance for a filming location, but this entirely depends on the location. Also all of the staff on set will have to have insurance.

Some of our staff would be able to work from home sometimes, of course it's quite a social job and you need to be out and about filming a lot of the time, staff would be able to work from home in the planning stages of projects, they can converse over something like zoom or Microsoft teams. Also our editors will be able to work from home if they have the appropriate software

we also really need to consider the location of the head office it needs to be close to were the work will be to minimise the amount of money and time spent travelling. we will have to consider business rates wherever our office is. Being close to business usually requires being in or around London or Manchester, the downside to living and working in these areas are that they are very expensive. So we would have to find a middle ground where there is plenty of work but also not to expensive.
