Intellectual property can be anything that you create, e.g. a story,  product, artistic work. Having ownership of your intellectual properly will making it more protected (less easy to steal). You can also buy intellectual property off people. patent and copyright laws protect owners of intellectual properties.

Copyright is a massive thing in the creative industry, copyright laws protect owners of intellectual property, making it illegal to copy, steal, or distributing someone-elses work. A creator doesn't need to apply or pay to be copyright protected, Intellectual properties will automatically be covered when they are created.

A trademark is a symbol or words that typically describe the brand, unlike copyright you can't just make a brand logo and expect it to be trademarked, you have to apply, there are a few rules about getting a registered trademark, it must not sound like another brand, this could deceive customers of either brand. your trademark also can't be descriptive, it's not allowed to say what it is in the name.

Talent release are a form talent will have to fill out in order to protect them and make it legal for them to be on set, if the talent isn't 18 then their parents/ carers will have to fill out a form, this is absolutely crucial to do as a production company, if you fail to do this it could land you in big trouble, anyone in front of the camera classes as talent.

Location releases are similar, if you are filming in someone elses  property you need to get them to sign a location release, it's illegal to film in someones property without out their knowledge, you could get in quite a lot of trouble if you do, as for filming there are no laws to stop people filming in pubic, but street performers will need a license.

There are a few reasons how child labour laws will impact the creative industries, for example, a child is very limited in how much they can work, they're only allowed on set between 7am and 7pm so if something needs to be filmed at night then the production company will have to find a way around that. They're also only allowed to be acting for 1 hour chunks, adding up to only 4 hours in one day, this could make production take a lot longer to film, which would make them more expensive to produce.

Public liability insurance isn't legally required but definitely is recommended, as it covers you if someone try to sue your business, this can leave businesses that don't have it bankrupt. It will also help you build a client base because people will be more trusting. Their are levels to this insurance and the nature of your business will depend on what level you need, if you're doing something that mainly involves a small amount of people, then a lower level will be fine, but if you work a lot out in the public then you'd need more.

The GDPR is essentially a set of rules that gives people who live in the EU more control over their own data. It limits the amount of personal data a company can hold on their clients, this is in favor of the clients and companies will be held accountable for any data leaks.

The competition act 1998 and the enterprise act 2002 established to make sure companies that conduct anti-competitive activities are penalized, for example directors at these companies can face up to 5 years in prison. One of the reasons this was introduced was to align the UK with the EU competition policy.
