Reflection on my business plan (final presentation)
Moving on there are quite a few things that I'll have to consider in order to make my businesses viable.
To start with I've focused all of my marketing budget on marketing on a younger audience, although younger people are my main audience by doing this I am really limiting my reach as a company, I'll need to rethink my approach to marketing because if I want to be a household name I can't exclude massive demographics.
I also feel like I explained my "no agenda" point rather poorly in my presentation, I meant to say that it's important not to twist information in order to prove a point as this can be very damaging, in the future I need to be crystal clear about what the points in my business plan mean.
I feel like I was too vague in my presentation, there are a few things that I believe I explained poorly, for example I never got specific on the subjects of my documentaries and what "unique" actually meant in my case. I think controversial maybe have been the wrong word to use, looking back I think taboo would have been a better word to use because I want to focus on things that people don't generally talk about, for example, things like teenage pregnancy and teenage drug use. I didn't mention either of these in my presentation. These where very important things to bring up, so in the future it is vital that I make sure my points can't be misinterpreted. Also moving on it'll be very important to be completely clear on how I want my documentaries to look and feel. I also should've said how I was going to gain information about issues that I would make my documentaries about, this is something I need to work on going forward to make sure my company can have a consistent work flow.
I mentioned that I would like to produce participatory documentaries, which I still do as I think they're very engaging, although I never said who I was going to have front them, this is a decision that needs to be made asap because it is vital in order to start producing anything, I'd like to front them but this would render my camera skills almost useless because I couldn't do both at the same time. This is another overlooked part that I will have to reconsider before I launch my business.
For funding I didn't realize how unrealistic it is to fund the whole thing by myself, this would take a long time and isn't really viable, going forward I will have to look into different kinds of funding maybe I could look at an arts council grant. This would be a much for viable way of funding my business because I wouldn't have to save up my own money, there are a few downsides though. I would have to get approved for the grant which could take awhile.
Moving on I need to be clear how I'm going to get my programs to the screen, it may be on television or on a streaming service like Netflix for amazon prime, streaming services would probably be best because they're more popular with my demographic, although it is difficult to get programs on these services. distribution is vitally important to the success of the business.
In conclusion I believe that my business is a good idea and could potentially be successful, although it would not be ready to launch in it's current state, the premises is there and most of the logistics are figured out but a few things were originally overlooked that would be key for the success of the business.
